 ADMISSION POLICY & PROCEDURE

The North London Rudolf Steiner School operates a socially inclusive admissions policy that does not select children on the grounds of gender, ability, race or religion. The school considers all children as having individual needs and aims to meet those needs in the best way possible, taking into consideration the child's age, developmental stage and other circumstances.

Our recommended Admissions Procedure is as follows:

Admission enquiries and applications need ideally to be made before the start of term.  Although admission to the school at the beginning of term is preferable, this is not a fixed policy.Children are occasionally admitted at other points in the term at the discretion of the school. As we operate waiting lists for both Playgroup and Kindergarten, we usually recommend that applications are made as early as possible.  Acceptance of the application in no way obligates the school to enrol your child/ren.

1.     Subsequent to your enquiry (telephone/correspondence/email) an information pack will be sent to you.  This  contains a school prospectus, an application form, the admissions procedure/policy, our current fee schedule and an invitation to attend an ‘Open Afternoon’ to meet and talk with our teachers, learn more about the school’s philosophy, provision and parental involvement.  There will also be a tour of the premises.  All prospective families are encouraged to attend an ’Open Afternoon’ preferably prior to the start of school.  Presently we hold one per term.

2.     Once your application form and fee (£40.00 non refundable) has been received you will be contacted by telephone/letter/email to confirm receipt of payment and entered onto our waiting list.  Applications are copied to the College of Teachers who are responsible for the waiting lists and the application fee is passed to the School Bursar who deals with all financial matters.

3.     When a place becomes available or the child reaches the appropriate age, the relevant teacher will then contact you to arrange a meeting.  These meetings normally take place at school and/or in your home.  As part of the process, if deemed helpful, the child concerned may be invited to visit the class for a few days, not exceeding one week.  Further details are available in our admissionspolicy.

4.     If your child is offered a place you will be notified either by the teacher or the school administrator.  A deposit of £150.00 is required to secure a place for Playgroup. A deposit of £300 is necessary to secure a place for Kindergarten for a child entering Kindergarten directly or when transferring internally from Playgroup into Kindergarten. This deposit is refundable once the child leave/s our school, subject to no fee arrears and/or one term’s notice.

5.     Reports & records, including appropriate direct contact with staff from a child’s previous school will need to be obtained where relevant. Children aged 5 and 6 will be assessed by our SENCO. Children under the age of 5 coming from another setting may also be asked to meet with the SENCO for assessment.

6.     Please be aware that bursaries are limited.

7.     The first half term is considered a trial period, the playgroup and Kindergarten teachers will review and share with you your child’s progress and level of integration into the class. If there is any need to reconsider a child’s place in the school or to extend the trial period, the child’s parents will be contacted.  Further details are available in our Child Probation Policy.

8.     Copies of all our school policies and procedures can be obtained from the school administrator (see below for contact details).

To discuss the admissions process further, or to join the waiting list for our Parent & Child groups, please call the school administrator on 0208 3413770. Parent and Child group sessions are £6.00, invoiced each half term in advance.
